| Newly Appointed Commissioner of Labour |
|
The Public Service Commission has approved the appointment of Mrs. Michelle Fulford-Gardiner to the position of Commissioner of Labour (Ag) in the Ministry of Border Control and Labour. Mrs. Gardiner took up the position on the 1st May, 2010.
The post of Commissioner of Labour calls for objectivity and integrity. It carries with it a wealth of responsibility given that it plays a key role in guarding our borders and in ensuring that Belongers, who have the pre-requisite skills and experience, get first preference for jobs in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Mrs. Gardiner will be responsible for enhancing clarity and integrity in the Department while improving efficiency. This will reduce the scope for any irregular activities and help to maintain public confidence in the way the Department operates.
Mrs. Gardiner has both private and public sector experience. This gives her a sound understanding of the prevailing labour issues facing the country. In 1995, she joined the Turks and Caicos Islands Government as a Scientific Officer attached to the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources. Now at Under Secretary she has acted in the post of Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Telecommunications, Works and Housing, and Environment and District Administration. Mrs. Gardiner’s commitment, hard work and determination, combined with her experience and impressive qualifications, will serve the country well in her challenging new role.
