Who We Are

The Labour Tribunal is an independent arm of the government of the Turks and Caicos Islands that has been formed to provide a quick and economical forum for deciding employment disputes.  

The administration of justice by the Tribunal is the responsibility of the president of the Labour Tribunal, who is appointed by the Governor and the secretary and staff members are appointed through the public commission. 

The Labour Tribunal office consists of a president and two other members.  The main office is in Providenciales with support in Grand Turk.  The group also relies on assistance from an equal number of assessors each representing employees/employers.  Assessors are nominated by or on oath on behalf of employee(s) or the employer(s).  The Government of the Turks and Caicos appoints qualifying assessors (nominees) to Tribunal. Tribunal members have five year terms and their services are utilized as the President deems necessary.

The aim of the Labour Tribunal is:

  • Hear disputes in essential and non- essential services.
  • Hearings normally in public
  • Evidence given on Oath or Affirmation
  • Decisions either at the end of the hearing or at a letter date
  • Hear cases throughout islands
